Michael and Dermot Since 1985, when directors Dermot Lavery and Michael Hewitt founded the innovative and award winning company in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the staff of DoubleBand Films has done it all. The fruits of their labours can be seen in an impressive body of work, with credits from Channel Four, BBC 2, BBC Northern Ireland and RTE.

One of the UK's leading lights in sports documentaries, covering subjects such as football, boxing and motorbike racing, DoubleBand has also expanded its expertise into medical and social documentaries. Just a quick look at the company's filmography reveals an impressive and eclectic range of interests.

Escobar's Own Goal (1998), Maradona: Kicking the Habit (2000) and George Best's Body (2001) are a trilogy of football biographies for the UK's Channel Four. Other football themed documentaries commissioned from DoubleBand Films by Channel Four are Beckham and the Battle with Argentina, a history of the rivalry between Argentina and Britain that was screened shortly before the 2002 World Cup, and the soon to be completed Sven biography that will be shown in March 2003.

These have been complemented by films such as Too Late For Names (BBC, 1998), a poignant documentary about still-births, Women's Work (BBC, 1997) a film about the role of women in the Northern Ireland political scene and Unfinished Business (BBC, 2002) a documentary about the world of forensic pathology.

Building on the success of its past credits, DoubleBand has a wide range of projects currently in production for Channel Four and BBC NI. War in Mind, a documentary which follows award-winning journalist David Beresford as he prepares for radical brain surgery to treat his Parkinson's Disease, will be shown on Channel Four in 2003. Also in production, for BBC NI, are a four part series entitled Super-8 Stories, and two documentaries, D-Day: Triumph and Tragedy, and Christine's Children.

DoubleBand's first drama production, the award-winning short film Still Life (1998), won many plaudits at festivals throughout the world and was picked-up by several broadcasters. This is being followed up by a feature-length drama, Out of the Blue (working title), which is being developed with support from the Northern Ireland Film Commission.
