A Stitch Through Time

4 x 30' - BBC ONE NI (2021)

A DoubleBand Films production for BBC Northern Ireland in association with the Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund.

Ulster’s reputation on the global stage was built on the success and innovation of its booming textiles industry. From the early beginnings of domestic linen in the late 1600s to the rapid expansion and innovation of the textiles industry in the 1800s.

Hosted by broadcaster and journalist Claire McCollum, A Stitch Through Time sees four up-and-coming fashion designers compete each week to complete technical and design-led challenges inspired by Ulster’s rich textiles heritage - and its legacy today.

EPISODE 1

Inspired by the story of Scottish entrepreneur William Tillie and the success of Londonderry’s shirt factories, four fashion designers create outfits from pre-loved cotton shirts.

EPISODE 2

The Ulster tartan is an interpretation of the Dungiven costume, and the inspiration for this week’s tartan challenge.

EPISODE 3

It’s elimination week and our designers will be challenged to come up with their own modern twist on the classic Ulster coat.

EPISODE 4

Taking inspiration from Ulster’s iconic linen industry, the two finalists go head to head to see who will be crowned this year’s winner of A Stitch Through Time.
