The Hospital: From the Inside

2 x 60' - BBC ONE NI (2019)

It’s the place that can change lives and where life and death decisions are made every day.

Viewers will get an unprecedented insight into the NHS in Northern Ireland through the eyes of the people who work in three of the hospitals in the Belfast Trust and the patients who put their hope and faith in them in a new two-part BBC One Northern Ireland series.

Broadcast over two consecutive nights, The Hospital: From The Inside gets unrivalled access to the patients, the staff and into the theatres where life-changing, and life-saving, operations are carried out.

The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust has six specialist hospitals. With a workforce of more than 22,000 people, it is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK. And it faces increasing demands on its services.

With a growing - and ageing - population - the Trust is experiencing greater pressures than ever with demand stretching its resources and capacity. Over the two nights, viewers get an insight into how unexpected events – such as a staff member illness or an emergency arrival - can have a dramatic knock-on effect on planned procedures and the patients waiting on those operations.
